For Jesse, building is a craft rooted in practicality and precision. “I’ve always been practical,” he said. “Growing up on properties, using my hands was always a thing. Following my brother into carpentry made sense, and from there, 2B Building just grew.” Today, the company remains deeply connected to the local community, with most projects located in southeast Tasmania. Jesse explains that maintaining a localized focus allows him to leverage long-standing relationships with clients and architects, ensuring projects are delivered smoothly from design to completion. 2B Building specializes in high-quality residential homes, ranging in size from modest builds to homes of up to 600 square meters. While the company can manage large-scale projects, its recent work has focused on homes around 250– 300 square meters, with contract values between $1.2 and $1.5 million. While supply chains in Tasmania have evolved in recent years, Jesse strives to maintain control over key materials like windows and trusses, balancing convenience with the assurance of quality. The company has been a finalist in the Housing Industry Association (HIA) Awards multiple times, and this year they received a High Commendation and their apprentice won the Apprentice of the Year award. “Some years I focus on it, some years I don’t,” he says. “It’s nice to have recognition, but my priority is always delivering homes our clients love.” Among recent projects, one stands out for its combination of technical challenge and visual impact. Located on Tiger Head and overlooking the water, the project required careful coordination and attention to detail, from demolition to the final build. While not entered in this year’s awards, Jesse highlights it as an example of 2B Building’s dedication to craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Landscaping, he notes, is an essential component of the overall project, tying the house to its natural surroundings and enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Other notable projects, such as a home on Carlton Bluff featuring exquisite timber and stonework, demonstrate the company’s versatility and commitment to blending beauty with functionality. With several standout builds already under his belt and ongoing recognition from the HIA, Jesse is turning his attention to the future. He’s content with the current size and structure of 2B Building, maintaining direct oversight of each project while balancing professional ambition with personal well-being. “I’m happy with how 2B BUILDING

the company is structured,” he says. “We have a good work-life balance, and I can focus on what I can control. Having three people in the main crew works perfectly—if someone’s away, there are always two others to keep things running.” The company is planning a few larger builds over the coming years, some of which may span two or more years, but the overarching goal remains the same: to create homes of quality, character, and enduring appeal. For Jesse, client satisfaction is at the heart of 2B Building’s success. Communication, trust, and a proactive approach to design improvements are central to the company’s philosophy. “I keep clients updated and in the loop always,” he explains. “If I see a potential improvement or fault in the design, I bring it up early.
