2 | Anderson Building Company Based on the coast of Western Australia, Anderson Building Company is a family owned and operated business with decades of experience in the building industry. They specialise in high-end commercial jobs and seek to build strong and lasting relationships with everyone they work with, including employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and especially clients. “Almost all of the people we work with come back and work with us again,” says Ian Anderson, the company’s founder and Managing Director. “We have many great relationships at every level of the business.” Anderson Building Company’s history in the industry spans decades, starting when Ian began his career in Scotland in 1972. After migrating to Australia roughly 10 years later, Ian forged a successful career in the residential building sec-

In 1992, he officially registered Anderson Building Company and began applying that experience and skill to jobs in commercial field. Today, Anderson Building mainly focuses on commercial projects, while still doing residential jobs and other types of work for existing clients. Within the commercial sector, their workload is varied – Ian says they regularly do everything from shops and shop fit outs, to showrooms, offices, and warehouses and “anything along those lines.” No matter what type of project they take on, however, the company adopts the same thorough, hands-on approach. “We work with the client from the conception of an idea to completion of the project,”

It’s all about that personal touch.” That personal attention, Ian explains, is what sets Anderson Building apart in the commercial sector. Right from the initial interview with a client, he works very hard to establish strong and harmonious working relationships – and if he doesn’t feel like that will happen, he’ll often simply choose not to work on the project. “I like to work with people with the right mindsets,” he says. “Positive people bring positive results, and that’s what I want to achieve every time.” That philosophy applies to the internal team at Anderson Building Company as well. Over his many years in the industry, Ian has put together a loyal and talented roster of employees and subcontractors that share his affirmative outlook and his strong work ethic. Many of his teammembers have been working with Anderson Building Company for more than 20 years. “It’s all about relationships,” says Ian. “It’s about the relationships that I have with the carpenters, the electricians, and everybody else I work with. Building good relationships builds good team work – and I want to see every member of the team succeed, including our clients.” ALL ABOUT TEAMWORK Anderson Building Company’s strong relationships have paid off for the business in a couple important ways. Firstly, they have resulted in re-

Some of the company’s clients, for example, have been coming to them for nearly 30 years now. Secondly, those strong relationships allow the company to achieve high quality projects, and those quality projects in turn attract industry award recognition. In 2012, for instance, Anderson Building’s high quality work on the Goldfields Toyota Dealership earned them a win at the Bankwest MBA Awards for Best Commercial Project. “We hold that in high regard,” Ian says of the industry recognition. “It proves that the projects we work on are of reasonably high quality, and there are many prospective clients out there that hold that in high regard too.” Goldfields Toyota Front View

It all comes down to teamwork. It all comes down to working together to achieve the best outcome for the client. I’m only one cog on the wheel, and if the other cogs don’t turn, the wheel doesn’t move.” Moving forward, Ian says he expects the company to earn more of that kind of industry recognition. They will accomplish that, he explains, by continuing to place an emphasis on teamwork – and continuing to provide a handson service. “My goal is not to grow the business, my goal is to maintain the quality of the business,” Ian explains. “The more growth you have, the less you can focus on quality. Our business is a personal business, and I have to be able to personally ensure our standard of quality is upheld.” Moving forward, Ian says that he simply wants to keep working with the right people on the right projects. His first and foremost priority will always be delivering the quality of service that clients expect and require. “At the end of the day, if we haven’t given a client what they wanted, or better than what they wanted, than we shouldn’t have been there in the first place,” he concludes. “Our goal is to give them an experience that’s second to none.” Toyota Panel Stand
