Averna Homes THE BRAND OF QUALITY
Averna Homes
Averna Homes THE BRAND OF QUALITY Based in Perth – and boasting an elite line-up of products and distinctive designs – Averna Homes is one of Western Australia’s most respected builders. Over time, they have earned that reputation as result of their innovative design, quality craftsmanship, and commitment to delivering dream homes to the market
Averna Homes Averna Homes first started building those dream homes in August, 2007, when Director Paul Serra established the company. Prior to that point, Paul spent 15 years working for other building companies, learning from their mistakes as well as their successes. When he started his own company, he did it with a firm desire to “approach the designing and building of luxury homes differently to other building companies in WA.” Today, Averna Homes has established a state-wide reputation for building high quality homes with excellent customer service. They now build mainly within the Perth metropolitan area, mostly doing brand new luxury homes for customers looking to build their final dream home. The majority of their homes are two-storey, and valued anywhere from $750,000 to $1.5 million. According to Paul, Averna Homes is set apart in that luxury market by their excellence in customer service, innovative design, and superior workmanship – but it all starts with the design. “Getting the design right is very important to building someone’s dream home,” he
Averna Homes explains. “We don’t have sales consultants here. We have two individual designers that work for Averna, and our clients are able to sit with them, feel comfortable, and create a concept that works for them and their family.” Before getting to that point, clients are encouraged to visit one of Averna’s show homes, where they can experience first-hand the quality Averna can achieve. Once they are comfortable with that, they meet the designers to discuss ideas. From there, they can also go out and see jobs that are under construction, and witness the process first hand. “That way they can see that we’re not just doing good show homes, but that our client homes are amazing as well,” Paul explains. “From there, they usually make the decision to take us to the next level.” Once a design is settled on, and Paul and his team actually start the building process, their relationship with their customers deepens. While other builders may only give their customers monthly updates, Averna Homes deals with them on a day-to-day basis, and conducts regular site meetings.

Averna Homes Even later, as the job nears completion, they make sure the site is clean for visits – and if a client needs to move in by a certain date, they do everything in their power to honour that. Finally, even after they move in, Averna Homes is at their “beck and call 24/7.” If any issues arise with an Averna-built home, they have a full time maintenance service manager who will make sure the issue is resolved as soon as possible. “We’re here for the long term relationship,” Paul says. “It’s a family commitment, and that’s what gives us our good name. When someone calls up a past client and asks about us, they’re going to recommend us every time.” Over the years, Averna Homes has bolstered their growing reputation with a long list of industry accolades – including two Master Builders Awards for Best Customer Service for Small to Medium Builders, numerous awards for Contract Homes, and a Rising Star Award fromWA Business News. In 2012, Paul himself earned a nod as the INDUSTRY RECOGNISED
Averna Homes winner of a prestigious 40under40 award, also fromWA Business News. “Being recognised by our peers is always fantastic, and getting that recognition is amazing,” Paul says. From a business perspective, Paulsays the company’s awards portfoliocan give potential clients confidence in their building abilities right out of the gate – even if, ultimately, their real faith comes later. “Clients see that we’ve won quite a few awards, so they know we must be doing something right,” he says. “At the end of the day, however, it all boils down to when they come and meet us and see first-hand that we are what we really are.” Recently, at the 2014 HIA Perth Awards, Averna Homes added two more accolades to their collection, while also qualifying as a finalist for Custom Built Home of the Year. Firstly, the company’s home at Hirundo Place, Waterford, won the prize for Custom Built Home $625,001 to $900,000. “The designof that home is amazing,” Paul describes. “The feel when you walk through the home is incredible. It’s a real family home
Averna Homes that everyone would feel comfortable in.” In particular, Paul is proud of the kitchen and family area, which includes a unique 6.5-metre sliding door connecting the room to an alfresco dining and entertaining area. Combined, he says the rooms feel like “one big entertainment complex.” “That home has true attributes of quality, affordability, and it just suits many families. The judges saw that,” he says. Secondly, Averna Homes’ one-storey project at SalvadoRoad, Floreat, won the category for Custom Built Home $900,001 to $1,200,000. Paul says he is “extremely proud” of that job, as he was involved throughout the design and construction personally. “It’s like going to a resort,” he says. “When you walk into this home, you feel like you’re on holiday. That’s because there’s a beautiful swimming pool in the middle of the home – and all the way around the swimming pool is livable. From the kitchen, to the main bedroom, to the kids bedrooms, to a cabana – it all surrounds this pool. So it’s like you’re on a villa somewhere in Thailand.” At the same time, the home also meets the lifestyle needs of the residents – as all Averna Homes’ projects do. In this case, it was a family with two children who entertained a lot, but also wanted their own individual spaces. “The husband wanted his man-cave,” Paul explains. “So underneath the cabana, three-metres below the ground, there’s an 85 square metre room where he can go and chill out with his friends and watch a movie or play pong.” Moving forward, Paul says Averna will continue delivering award-worthy homes like that one –homes that look and feel good, while also pushing the envelope of design. They will also keep opening display homes to prove their abilities. Currently, they have three displays in the pipeline, including one in the new estate of Carine, as well a $2 million three-storey design in South Perth. Ultimately, Paul hopes to see Averna Homes become a “branded building company” – and he wants that brand to stand for quality. “It’s like a wholesale name in a grocery store,” he concludes. “There are some brands where you know straight away that you’re going to buy their particular product, and you don’t even need to look anywhere else. That’s where Averna Homes is going.”
