ABN itself is a leader in the Australian residential building market, and is comprised of a wide portfolio of builders at the forefront of the market. The group employs over 1,400 people, 3,000 different independent construction contractors, and possesses more apprentices than any other building organization in all Australia. Being part of the ABN Group means holding all of the same core values that have made that organization the industry leader that it is today. ABN’s members all share a commitment to pro-

Those qualities have rubbed off on Concretus, who have adopted a similar dedication to innovation and quality. Concretus itself was first formed in September 2003, and was originally known as ABN Concrete. The company was founded to serve the concrete requirement of the ABN Group, which were growing more and more demanding over the years. Since then, Concretus has grown to be one of the largest and most professional concrete companies in Perth, providing supply and lay services in a number of different markets across

They also have stringent quality control procedures in place, and have invested substantially in a state-of-theart logistics system to ensure their future success. And while the company was originally created to supply all of the concrete needs for Dale Alcock and Celebration Homes, it has since grown to the point where it regularly services all a manner of external building companies. SETTING THEMSELVES APART “What makes us different is quality control,” says Kevin Soh, Business Development Manager at Concretus. “We do quality checks and a lot of people don’t do that. The concrete supervisors here regularly carry out quality checks on all our slabs, and that they were laid as per the plans and specifications.” According to Kevin, Concretus also prides itself on communication and support. “We have an office you can ring up, and we’ve got 20 people in here that can help you out at most times of the day when you have an issue. Our qualified concrete supervisors are always available to provide onsite technical support to ensure that every job runs smoothly.” “We’re also very competitive because we are one of the larger concrete supply and store companies,” he continues. “We buy more concrete and steel than most people, so our pricing is fairly modest. Over just the last nine years alone, we’ve managed to develop some very strong partner-

They offer a two-year workmanship warranty on all of their concrete products. “None of our competitors offer that,” Kevin says. “I’ve never seen it anywhere else in all my years of business.” Concretus also trains apprentices, Kevin adds – another fact that helps to set the company apart from the competition. “We actually just had the very first concrete apprentice to ever complete his apprenticeship in WA,” he says. “We are very committed to growing the industry, and to developing young people for new jobs – ones that are quite lucrative at that.” “The last thing that sets us apart is our dedication to what we call the customer’s peace of mind,” he concludes. “All of our supervisors and trades are highly qualified and adhere to the strictest health and safety protocols. We comply with all state license requirements, as well as the necessary insurance for every job.” THE TRUTH IN NUMBERS Concretus currently employs six staff, two concrete trainees and over 17 concrete subcontract teams. With those talented staff members, the company placed over 1,200 ground slabs for residential homes in 2008/2009 financial year alone – plus a numerous quantity of suspended slabs, garage hardstands, and precast floors. Moving forward, Kevin hopes to maintain and grow those numbers. More importantly, however, he wants to maintain and grow the company’s reputation. “Our vision is for Concretus to be the most reliable and most respectable concrete provider there is,” he says. “We also want to evolve, of course – around 70 to 80 percent increase in staffing seems about right. But primarily we want to be able to meet and exceed all our customer’s expectations, whatever those may be.”
