In 2011 and 2012, for example, the company was recognised as the HIA Victorian Professional Small Builder of the Year. Cliff says that awards like that go a long way to establishing their credibility as great homebuilders. The award’s rigorous entry process also gave them the opportunity to step back and reflect on their current systems and practices, which is something most companies rarely get the chance to do in a fast moving world. “It is a good business analysis tool,” Cliff says. “It makes you stop and think about what you are doing instead of just putting one foot in front of the other every day.” “As part of the entry, you have to give information on what systems you operate,” he adds. “Also, information on what you do in regards to training people, how you do your financial management, and more.
