| Industrial Galvanizers Speed, quality & VALUE With eight locations across the country and a workforce of some 350 employees, Industrial Galvanizers is the largest hot-dip galvanising (HDG) services provider in Australia. The award-winning company is a powerhouse in the protective metal coatings industry and sets the standard in providing speedy service, quality outcomes and value for money.

Industrial Galvanizers | Industrial Galvanizers was founded in Newcastle, New South Wales in 1968. The company grew significantly over the years through a series of savvy business acquisitions before eventually becoming a part of the global Valmont Group in 2010. Today, Industrial Galvanizers services a variety of sectors, including commercial and residential construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, oil and gas, mining and agriculture. They also offer a cash sales service to the public for smaller projects, such as providing coatings for boat and box trailers. According to Alex Spillett, the company’s Business Development Manager, Industrial Galvanizers’ facilities are capable of processing in excess of 150,000 tonnes of product per annum, which is “a considerable amount of coated steel.” With this level of throughput, they are able to tackle projects of all shapes and sizes. This includes major fabrications such as the Macquarie Bank Centre, Sydney Olympic Park, Austin Hospital Car Park and Star City Casino redevelopment − the latter two earning Industrial Galvanizers a pair of noteworthy accolades.

Industrial Galvanizers were commissioned to provideHDG coating for the 1500 tonnes of structural steel used to build the structure “due to its long life, minimal maintenance and low whole of life cost” − in fact, the coating is expected to outlast the building’s lifespan of fifty years. For their efforts on the Austin Hospital Car Park, Industrial Galvanizers won the ‘Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing International Award 2015’ from the American Galvanizers Association and were also named as finalists for the Galvanizing Association of Australia’s ‘Sorel Award 2014.’ On the $760 million Star City Casino redevelopment, Industrial Galvanizers supplied the protective metal coating for the structural steel used in the facility’s 300 tonne steel frame − which supports its internal walls and external glass façade − using the same HDG coating process. The company was selected to provide the service because “the project required a corrosion protection system that would remain maintenance-free for at least 10 years.” The Star Multi-Use Entertainment Facility earned the entire proj-

Already long-time members, Industrial Galvanizers have bolstered their working relationship with ASI of late and recently began sponsorship of some Institute events “in order to promote not just Industrial Galvanizers, but galvanising as an industry.” “Obviously, the steel industry promotes the use of Australian steel, but that steel also needs to be coated and protected in some way. That generally comes down to being painted, galvanised or a combination of the two,” Spillett explains. “So from that perspective, working with ASI is a real benefit to not only us, but the galvanising industry as a whole in providing a full spectrum of

According to Spillett, those are two aspects of the business they “take very seriously and value greatly.” In terms of environmental sustainability, the company has several green initiatives in place to minimise their impact on the environment. For example, they recently made a significant investment to improve the environmental efficiency of their Newcastle site. This includes the installation of a fume capture hood over the facility’s hot zinc bath to capture, control and treat fumes that are released during the HDG process. Industrial Galvanizers also has a number of stringent safety systems and controls in place to protect their employees from the various hazards present in the protective CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

They clearly have a lot of experience and knowledge about our business and the risks that are involved, so we buddy those guys up with new employees and make sure new starters are familiar with the workplace hazards before working their way into other sections of the process.” In the coming years, Spillett says Industrial Galvanizers would like to achieve “worldclass sustainability” in regards to both environmental performance and workplace health and safety whilst simultaneously concentrating on the business’s top-line growth. He also acknowledges that they need to have the systems and practices in place to reach those goals as well as be able to “attract and retain the best people” for the long-term growth of the organisation.

| Industrial Galvanizers “Those are the strategic goals we have within our business, but we appreciate that none of those things are going to happen unless we service our customers to the best of our abilities and continue providing value to them,” he concludes. “That means offering end-to-end services such as ‘The Silver Bullet®’ service, which is our next day galvanising offer. That’s all part of delivering a seamless customer experience that we want to continue to improve upon over the next one to three years.”
