| Len Pro Building www.jmcgroup.com.au Winners of the 2014 HIA-CSR award for the Hunter Region Home of the Year, Len Pro Building is establishing itself as one of Australia’s premier custom home builders. Family-run, their motto is empathetic and sincere: ‘We build your home like it’s ours.’

Len Pro Building | Len Pro Building has come a long way since their inception in 2013. In just two short years, the family-run company has established a name for itself based on their commitment to architectural design and their vision for creating exquisite, elegant and out of the ordinary custom homes. Guided by a down-to-earth, personalised approach to building not only homes but also relationships, owner Lance Lennard never rests on his laurels. He maintains a strict set of principles for every job he and his company undertake. “We’ve got a serious checklist that we use through every course of the job to ensure quality,” Lance says. “I’m a carpenter by trade, so I’m onsite the majority of the time. I’ve got three full-time employees, two carpenters and one apprentice. Both of the carpenters have been with us for a long time, so they’re pretty familiar with the standards and checklists that we work to now.” “I’ve worked for myself for about 12 years now and some of the subcontractors I’ve used have been there since the initial start of the business,” he continues. “From the early

I’ve also built a good communication base with them, and have a good understanding of what they offer and what kind of work suits thembest. That adds to the relationship.” Limiting their services to within a 30 kilometre radius centred around Cessnock, Pokolbin and surrounding areas in New South Wales, Lance and his company have successfully found a geographic niche that suits their specific style and creative process when developing and designing their distinct brand of Len Pro homes. “Predominantly, most of our customers are second or third home owners,” Lance says. “We don’t do a lot of work for first home owners. We tend to target people who have experience building homes once or twice before − people who know what they want and who want something different than your standard brick and tile construction.” Len Pro Building creates a fresh new design with each build and offers customers flexibility in terms of pricing. They also avoid targeting one specific area of the residential building industry, which adds to their diverREACH AND RADIUS

From lightweight construction to stone construction, there is not a particular type of bracket that says we only do jobs between $200,000 to $500,000 or $800,000 – they vary between there.” For any designer, artist or builder, receiving industry recognition of any kind is a humbling experience. At 2014 HIA-CSR Housing Awards, Len Pro Building was humbled when one of their projects won Hunter Region Home of the Year. The project was described as demonstrating ‘magical workmanship and exceptional quality’ by judges, and its win propels Len Pro Building into elite company. “The project was a restoration job,” Lance says. “A home built in the 1920s that had a couple of renovations done to it previously AWARD RECOGNITION

On initial consultation, we were going to do the project just to a mock-up stage, but through the course of the process, the client wanted us to finish the project.” Located in Cessnock, the award-winning entry had its share of challenges, but Lance and his team were able to overcome them. “During demo stage we came across a few areas of termite damage and had to go deeper with the removal of existing walls and structural members in the home,” he says. “From a construction point of view, there was a lot more involved than what the original plan was.” “The client had a pretty specific concept in mind for the project and he stayed true to his selections. He did make it very easy to work for him and he was very well prepared. The sketches, the diagrams and the information he provided us for finishing detailing made it easy to produce.” Len Pro Building worked closely with the client on the award-winning project, greatly PRESTIGIOUS FEEDBACK

Together, they ensured the design and architecture of the home stayed true to the home’s origins and remained a prime feature throughout the course of the renovation and re-model. “Being in real estate, he has an opportunity to look at a lot of different homes,” Lance says. “For this home, he did his research and stayed very true to the generation-style home that it was. He kept as many of the original features as he could, like the pressed metal ceilings and stained glass that was repainted. As for the mouldings, they were all made custom to suit that era of construction.” The custom-building market space in Australia is fiercely competitive and heavily populated. Each company has their own set of ideals and core values that drive their business and separate it from the competition. It takes a special project to win an award as prestigious as Hunter Region Home of the Year, and Len Pro Building did just that. “The feedback we got from the judges was the attention to detail was far superior to the other projects they viewed this year,” Lance

Our entry had a lot of heritage trims, which from that point of view set it aside from a lot of the other entries.” “The overall finish of it was excellent,” he adds. “Everything came together well. It was a good combination of a lot the subcontractors I use as well – we have an extended team that we use on a regular basis from various trades. It’s a credit to all their individual input that gave us the overall finish that was worthy of winning the award.” Growththroughreferral businesshas been a blessing for Len Pro Building. The power of traditional word of mouth advertising has the Pokolbin-based company reaching new heights, earning a reputation for quality, personalised service and professionalism throughout the country. By constantly striving to improve their craft − and by completing award-winning projects like their Hunter Region Home of the Year − Len Pro Building is certainly heading towards a bright future. “Moving forward, we want to fine tune the things that we’re doing,” Lance says. “We don’t really want to grow our business; we’re happy with where things are going and the team that we’ve got at the moment. We just want to aim for specific projects where people will be impressed − the type of jobs that at the end of the day when people look at them have that ‘wow’ factor about them. That’s the direction that we’re trying to head for.”
