2 | Quarrico Products Quarrico Products Pty Ltd is a family-owned and local company operating three quarries in the Moranbah region in Central Queensland. By building a team of hard-working employees and investing in world leading technology, they have gained the ability to accommodate virtually any order required by customers – while providing a first-class service every step of the way. “Our goal is to maintain the highest level of quality, reliability and customer service at the lowest possible cost,” says Joe Zarb, Director & Operations Manager of the company. “And we have a history of achieving that goal.” Quarrico commenced operations out of Grosvenor Quarry in February, 2007. Zarb, who helped found the company, comes from a long background in the industry – having worked in civil construction, as well as an underground miner. Today, the company’s main business is quarrying and the supply of gravel materials, road bases and aggregates to the mining and construction

They have crushing, screening, loading and excavating equipment – all of which is regularly serviced and well-maintained. DEDICATED TO HELPING Currently, Quarrico’s major area of operation is within a 100 kilometre radius of Moranbah, which incorporates numerous mine sites. They prefer to supply to large-scale, long-term projects, but have the capacity to take on short-term jobs as well. According to Zarb, it’s that kind of flexibility that sets Quarrico apart. “Our dedicated team is happy to work with our customers to identify their product needs and determine what we can do to meet them,” he says. According to Zarb, Quarrico has repeatedly proven that it is capable of adapting to customer requirements. In one prime example, they were

By drawing on the material stockpiled on the ground, increasing their production levels, and by dramatically increasing their number of trucks on the go, Quarrico were able to meet that customer’s delivery deadline – and they did while still fulfilling their commitments to other customers “Although we do prefer to have longer leadin times for such large volumes of product, we are able to increase our capacity levels when required,” Zarb says. In general, Quarrico takes their relationships with customers very seriously. Their sales team works closely with their on-site personnel and crushing and haulage subcontractors to track deliveries, ensuring they reach customers on time and avoid unnecessary delay. And if customers require assistance, Zarb himself is always contactable, even after hours. “We just try and help as best we can,” Zarb says, summarising the company’s customer service philosophy. Quarrico has also developed very strong relationships with subcontractors, who Zarb acknowledges are vital to delivering their high quality products and service. Over the years, they have built a reliable network of subcontractors whom they work with on a consistent basis. And because they are commited to contributing to a

The company also fosters strong relationships with the communities in which they work. Zarb says everyone within Quarrico take social responsibility seriously, which is why the company regularly sponsors events and donates to worthy causes throughout the area. Throughout the years, they have contributed to numerous charitable organisations – including Cancer Council Queensland, MS Australia, the RSPCA, several local schools, and more. “Whenever we think there is a good cause out there driven by the right people, we try to help,” Zarb says. “We do that financially, and even physically at times.” Quarrico further serves their communities by going out of their way to achieve positive environmental outcomes. That is why they are a member of the Moranbah Cumulative Impact Group (MCIG), which was established by key government, resource industry, union and community representatives. The MCIG works to develop and implement strategies for minimising the impacts of mining in the region, and Quarrico is proud to be part of that effort. Quarrico is also proud of their in-house environmental policy, Zarb adds. They take all reasonably practical measures to ensure continuous improvement in their environmental performance, and work hard to manage all risks that may lead to potential environmental impact. Their official policy is closely monitored by their OHS Officer,

They currently have state-of-the-art on-board weighing technology fitted to their sales loaders, which

That technology also cuts back on wait time at weighbridges, and generally ensures that product is delivered to the customer’s site with limited interruption. The company also has a mobile concrete batch plant that allows them to set up concrete production on customers’ sites – which also cuts down on haulage costs. Even more, Quarrico is one of the first quarries in the region to establish an on-site, NATA accredited testing facility. That is yet another advance which reduces overall wait times for the customer. “We’re always looking for better and more efficient ways to do things,” Zarb says. In the future, Zarb says the company will continue to make those technological leaps where possible. Otherwise, they will focus on maintaining their quality and customer service – which means not growing too big, or too fast. “We’re not fly-by-nighters, we’re here for a long stay,” he says. “We believe in growing slowly, based on supplying a good quality product.”
