Strike Shopfitting | 3 With almost 10 years of operations under their belt, Strike Shopfitting has become one of the premier providers of high quality fit outs and joinery to the Australian industry. By utilising their technical know-how and real world experience, Strike has delivered countless successful projects to satisfied clients, and has become a name you can trust. In 2004, Phil Moloney and his family started the business, but according to Kate Ruddell – the General Manager and the founder’s daughter – Phil already had more than 25 years of experience in the industry when he launched Strike. “He had worked for one of Australia’s biggest shopfitting companies,” explains Ruddell. “He was in charge of the Melbourne operations. They expanded substantially while he was working there.” That expansion had its draw backs, according to Phil. He saw that the company was no longer able to give the specialised personal service that he thought was very important to the shopfitting industry, so he decided to make a change. “He felt it was time to move from the corporate world into a family run business,” Ruddell recalls.“That’s where Strike began.” Ruddell started her own career as a Chartered Accountant, building her business and project management skills over several years through a variety of clients from large public companies to small family businesses. Part way through her career path, she also decided on making a lifestyle

Ruddell’s strengths complemented her father’s strengths, and together they have made Strike a more formidable company in the market. A SINGLE MISSION Today, Strike Shopfitting operates Australia wide, and is licenced in all territories except for Queensland. Their in-house joinery shop is located in Epping, Victoria. Since their inception, Strike has grown significantly in both size and capabilities. Learning from his previous experience, however, Phil has managed that growth carefully to ensure the company never loses their personal touch. “Looking back to 2004, the story so far has been one of growth,” Ruddell says. “We have moved to a larger factory, we have more people. The business has just grown and grown – but we have tried to keep it at a manageable size so that we can continue to give personal service and remain hands on with our clients.” “We have chosen to stay at a level where it is still a family business, and we can still provide good service,” she adds.“It’s hard to find our level of dedication to personal service anywhere else.” Ruddell explains that the company’s personal touch does not end with just the clients – they have also used it to forge personal relationships with their suppliers and contractors all over Australia. The company also backs that service up with quality. “We are very hard working,” says Ruddell. “We never provide a promise without delivering on it. I think that is a reputation that Phil built up in the industry and has carried on into his business.” Ruddell says that, as a company, they have never missed a deadline. They also go out of their way to make sure the lines of communication are open at all times. “If a client rings any one of us, we can provide details and assurances that everything is on track and going as planned,” she says. Strike fosters equally close relationships with their employees – many of whom have been working with the company for a number of years. Ruddell says the knowledge and skills of their employees are integral to the company’s success. “Our factory manager is one of the best joiners in the Australian industry, and he is very focused on teaching the younger guys good joinery skills that they can transfer to site,” Ruddell says. “The manufacturing process and the fitouts rely heavily on our guys, and their skills.” For the future, Strike Shopfitting will continue to provide the personalized service that they have become known for. This also serves to provide them with a competitive edge that many other companies cannot match, especially when dealing with the import market. Ruddell explains that by going that extra mile for the customer that they will return, and not look at outside sources. The guaranteed quality that Strike provides outweighs the momentary monetary savings of a single purchase. Ruddell guarantees that working with Strike will be more beneficial in the long run.
