Vantage Holdings

2 | Vantage Holdings Vantage Holdings is a construction company, but is more than a builder. From the beginning of a project – whether it’s an architectural home or an industrial estate – they immerse themselves in their client’s vision. Then, throughout the entire build process, they work hard to deliver that vision without compromise. “We provide a seamless concept to construction service,” says Scott Hastings, Business Development Manager at the company. “We handle everything from initial costings at the design stage through to final approvals at completion. The buildings we create might all be different, but our commitment and attention to detail never changes.” Based on the Sunshine Coast, Vantage Holdings was established by founder Shane O’Brien over 10 years ago. In the time since, the company

Vantage Holdings | 3 has continuously grown and evolved their capabilities. Today, they provide a wide range of building services – from architectural homes, to units and townhouses, industrial parks, and commercial centres. According to Hastings, that diversity is what sets the company apart in the market. “We can build anywhere and anything,” he says. “Commercial, small lot residential – whatever a client needs, we can accommodate them.” No matter whom they are building for, however, Vantage Holdings focuses on forming a strong working relationship. Hastings says they prioritise that kind of thing over simply “making a buck.” “We won’t enter any relationship that we don’t think will satisfy both parties, or have any sort of unethical activity,” he explains. “We’d

4 | Vantage Holdings rather do less volume and do an excellent job than more volume and do a less-than-excellent one.” For the people they do choose to work with, Hastings says the key to forming strong and lasting relationships is “doing the right thing.” For Vantage Holdings, that means acting ethically and looking out for the client’s best interests at every turn. It means looking beyond the easiest way to make a quick dollar for the company, and delivering the best possible result for clients. As a result of that commitment to doing the right thing, Vantage Holdings has earned the loyalty of almost all of their customers. The majority of their workload is comprised of jobs from repeat clients, or jobs earned from word-of-mouth. The company’s relationship-focus does not end with customers. Vantage fosters equally strong and lasting ties internally, with both their direct staff and dedicated roster of subcontractors and tradespeople – many of whom have been working with the business almost as long as it has existed. “The relationships in-house are quite good,” Hastings says. “We have different divisions and mindsets, but it all gels together very well. We also have a loyal following of contractors, which gives us consistency in our quality.” INDUSTRY RECOGNISED Vantage Holdings quality workmanship and unwavering attention to detail not gone unnoticed by the industry. In the past, the company has won regional MBA awards in multiple categories, including one for a home in the $900,000 to $1.5 million range, and another for a commercial building worth more than $4 million.

It’s a big team effort.” The award-winning home is situated at Point Lookout on Stradbroke Island, and was built to take advantage of ocean views and sea breezes. The main building consists of four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a heated in-door magnesium pool, and an expensive kitchen and BBQ area. The self-contained guest quarters includes a fifth bedroom, with an additional bathroom and kitchProudly supplying Vantage Holdings Australia Scan to visit www.polytec.com.au

Internally, the finishes included polished concrete floors on the lower level, polished timber floors on the upper level, quality tiles in the bathroom, and New Guinea Rosewood timber windows and doors throughout. That home was also built on a sloping site – which made for a complex build. According to Jensen, that was not even the most difficult aspect of the job, however. Because the home was on Stradbroke Island, the real challenges were the logistical ones. Vantage Holdings had to bring materials over by barge, and accommodate subcontractors and suppliers schedules and travel needs. “For that sort of work, you need specialised trades,” he explains. “And when people are spend-

So we relied on our subcontractors to achieve that quality, and they came through.” EMBRACING CHANGE Vantage Holdings is a company that’s always embraced change. According to Hastings, that quality has driven them to success in the past and will continue to do in the future. “We move with the market,” he says. “Whatever’s working, that’s where we are.” They currently see small-lot residential housing as an emerging market, for example, and have created a new brand to capitalise on it. The brand – which is called Urban Collection by Vantage – sells small-lot homes that are “functional, trendy, and affordable.” The company sees great things in store for that brand, and have already got the display home with that design nominated and shortlisted at the next MBA Awards. Vantage Homes also sees a strong future for their development arm, Hastings adds. They are currently experiencing very strong sales for their Chincilla Estate development, which is located in the eponymous Chinchilla region, less than 300 kilometres from Brisbane. They also have several more developments in the pipeline for the Sunshine Coast, where they see the market “showing some positive signs.” Currently, Vantage Homes is the biggest residential builder based on the Sunshine Coast – and the most diverse property group. Hastings says they aim to keep it that way by continuing to deliver quality projects for satisfied customers, and by continuing to embrace change.
