Recently, Dion Group completed a high-end home in Kellyville for some clients who fit that bill. That project came to fruition during the first wave of COVID, when the clients were situated in Hong Kong and the architects in Melbourne. That distance really tested Dion Group’s system of communication, but they were able to overcome those logistical challenges and deliver a “really spectacular result,” George says. “It was a bit of a challenge,” he says, “but that’s great, because we love challenges.” That home was “very architectural” and featured “very high-end finishes.” It brought together “a vast amount of different textures.” For George, highlights of the build included a seven-anda-half metre raked ceiling, multiple internal courtyards, and massive windows. Another highlight was the reaction from the clients. According to George, they have since returned to Sydney, and they love the finished product. “They said it’s everything they could have dreamed of,” he says. “That’s the kind of review we love to get.” Moving forward, Dion Group wants to continue earning those reviews, and they also want to continue to grow. Last year they completed four projects, this year they will be completing 12, and next year they are looking to complete 20 to 30. They strongly believe that their systems have readied them for that growth, and they believe the market is there to accommodate it. “The banks are lending,” George says. “There are a lot of people out there looking to build oneto-three million dollar homes. I think there’s a massive void in the market that’s waiting to be filled.” “The problem is that there’s some ambiguity around the industry and some ill feelings towards builders,” he concludes. “But that goes back to why we founded the company – to make building enjoyable and to do it quickly. We’re here to change the way people look at building. I think we’re in a great position to do that.” NOVEMBER 2021
