Lamprey Builders gives back to the community by sponsoring local sports. They are involved with an Aussie rules footy team, two cricket teams, two women’s field hockey teams, and girls go-karting. Their go kart driver in Tasmania recently received the STKC rising star award at age 14. They also sponsor two cyclists, both of whom competed in Europe this year. “At least half of our sponsorship is women’s’ sport. That gives us a bit of publicity but truly 90 per cent of our work comes through word of mouth. A lot of the people we build for are repeat builders,” says Terry. Terry believes Tasmania is somewhat of a closed market. “We build about 10 houses a year. There’s not that many builders our size that do that. There’s a lot of small family builders, and larger developers,” he says.
