No matter where they want to build, Destination Living works closely with them from first contact on in order to best understand their needs and wants. “I have a set format I work on with clients to understand what’s important to them and I listen to them to determine they align with what we do,” Mike explains. “It’s an extensive process, starting with a phone call, then an online meeting, then finally an in-person meeting. We’re usually all on the same page by then.” Mike enjoys the challenge of every project the company takes on. “There’s always something new when you’re creating something specific for a client,” he says. “Every project has different opportunities and constraints. When you combine all those together, every project is exciting.” He cites a recently finished project built on three metres of fall. “It was a corner site with a northern orientation,” he says. “Melbourne is a colder climate for Australia, and builders try to bring the northern light into homes to keep warmth in.” He says that if a home is well designed for its’ orientation on the property, it limits the energy requirements for heating. “We recessed this house on the southern boundary to provide some northern space.
