Collectively, all three companies work primarily in Newcastle and Hunter Valley, where their focus has always been commercial, industrial and infrastructure construction. When they started, however, Newcastle was a different place. There used to be a lot more heavy industry, and those heavy industrial companies were Milleen Group’s main clients. Andrew says that as the city has evolved and changed, so has Milleen Group. “Newcastle has gone from a dirty steel town to a vibrant beach city where a lot of people want to live,” he says. “As the heavy industries have moved out, we’ve had to find new areas to operate.” These days, Milleen Group is still heavily invested in the infrastructure and manufacturing spaces, but their typical project portfolio has changed, says Andrew. “There’s still a fairly solid manufacturing base in Newcastle. We do a lot in high voltage electrical substations, transmission lines and power stations, water infrastructure, manufacturing, piling and foundation improvements. Our projects range in value from $50,000 to $10 million is typical range, and we’re working on four to eight of those type of projects at a time.” Clients within that niche tend to choose Milleen due to their reputation, says Andrew. “We’ve been around a long time.
