in our industry. Clients have a sense of security with the knowledge from that longevity. Along with that, we’ve worked with just about every single company in the area and further afield in the industries we work in.” Over the years, Andrew believes they have built strong relationships not only with the companies they work for, but also the individual representatives of those companies. “Those people move around the industry,” he explains. “We might work for a client’s representative and develop a good relationship with them, then they move on to another area when that project is finished. They already know us so they’ll recommend us to do the new project. We have 90 per cent repeat business.” Milleen Group also has a lot of longevity internally. Andrew, personally, has been part of the company for 20 years, starting with them as a tradesman and working his way up. And he’s not the only one with that kind of tenure. “It’s a good place to work,” he says. “We have several people with long tenures. Two are coming up on 30 years and several others have 20 years with Milleen. Our work culture is excellent. We focus on being a fair, family-oriented workplace. It’s not all about the work. People have lives and aspirations outside of work. We try to provide opportunities for people. We do a lot of skills training to allow them to grow and develop within the company.” That emphasis on relationship-building also applies to the company’s sub-trades. “We generally work with the same sub-contractors, and have worked with them for many years,” says Andrew. “We value relationships over cost. We get loyalty from them and when we need something done fast, we can call our sub-contractor and say ‘we need some help, can you do this on short notice’ and they will come out when we need them.” OCTOBER 2024
