storage in integrated refrigeration and a secreted walk-in pantry. Then a large central island with bespoke setup attuned to his way of working. The best sections of the original cabinetry were repurposed for modern day use, expanded upon and used to inspire the joinery throughout the living areas. An upcoming project the couple are invested in is an accommodation for cancer patients for the Mildura Health Foundation. “We’re working with them to create cost-free accommodations for cancer patients and their families,” says Simon. There will be ten modern, well-equipped and conveniently located apartments, in walking distance to Mildura Health Icon Cancer Centre. The self-contained and fully furnished one and two bedroom apartments will include creature comforts such as a kitchenette for home cooked meals, a lounge area, TV and WIFI, work stations, with all linen and towels provided so that patients, their families and carers, can walk into a comfortable and safe setting and be at ease to focus on their recovery. The company is expecting to grow in the future, says Justine. “We’ve spent the last couple years systemizing our business and making sure all our policies and procedures are up to date so things run as smoothly as possible. We’re looking to expand. We have great team and staff. We want to take on more commercial work and see where that leads us.” They are currently renovating their showroom, says Simon. Once that is complete in 4-6 months, they will pursue getting more builders on board and more commercial work, as well as more work in Melbourne. A recent addition to MACU Kitchens joinery business is the SCM Flexstore joinery machine. “We’ve always kept up to date with our technology and manufacturing systems,” says Justine. Simon notes the fully automatic Flexstore System. Is programmed from their office. An operator places the board in the machine, the machine picks it up, labels it, rolls it through, does the cutting and drilling and pushes it out on a conveyor belt. “We were the first ones in Australia to put that machinery in seven years ago,” he says. “We just updated it 12 months ago and it’s running really well. We like to use the right machinery for the job, and it gives us more room for production in the future.” SEPTEMBER 2024
