Despite the scale, Rob insists the business retains its family-style culture. “We particularly make an effort to keep it a familystyle business and not a core constructor. From that point of view, we think that is a core business strategy—being all about the community.” That approach extends to subcontractors and suppliers, with whom the company maintains a balanced mix of long-standing relationships and opportunities for new operators. “If someone wants to have a go at something, we are usually happy to support them. At the end of the day, if you look after them, they’ll look after you,” Rob says. Batchelor Group’s people-first culture has been formally industry-recognised in recent years. For example, the company was recently honoured with the ‘Women in Infrastructure Award’ at the 2025 Women in Infrastructure Dinner, in recognition of their ongoing commitment to building an inclusive, supportive, and empowering workplace for women in construction. Rob is proud of the progress they’ve made in that arena: “If you look at the civil industry even 10 years ago, it was pretty stereotyped.
