dependence and improves air quality. As a father of four, Leigh personally relates to these concerns. For example, on the Darling Point Special School project, architects conducted exhaustive studies on how colour and light influence children with sensory sensitivities. Working closely with the design team, Safetyline produced coloured-glass louvre panels in soothing hues of purple, green, yellow and blue. Exactly calibrated to the building’s orientation, these panels cast soft, calming washes onto classroom surfaces throughout the day. “Knowing our systems contribute to environment where students can focus and thrive—that’s incredibly rewarding,” Leigh reflects. On the commercial side, the Adina Apartment Hotel Pentridge in Melbourne showcased Safetyline’s ability to blend heritage preservation with modern performance. In converting the old prison complex into a boutique hotel and residential development, architects sought window systems that honored the building’s austere aesthetic while meeting contemporary thermal, acoustic, and safety standards. Safetyline engineered high-performance louvres with concealed hardware and durable powdercoated frames that matched the original cast-iron details. The result is a seamless marriage of old and new: guests enjoy optimal comfort without compromising the site’s historic character. Technical excellence underpins these flagship projects. Safetyline’s SmartAir System—a naturalventilation solution that automatically adjusts louvre positions based on temperature and humidity sensors—earned a Good Design Award for its elegant integration of mechanical and architectural elements. Building on that success, the company launched their SJ Espacer product in late 2024. That product is a high performance, large-format louvre system that improves thermal insulation and daylight distribution. Last year, it won the company its second Good Design Award. Furthermore, Leigh and Nathan have both been named Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Manufacturing) by Business News Australia— honours that acknowledge not only their business acumen but also the collective ingenuity of Safetyline’s R&D, production, sales and marketing teams.
