One of Ryan’s proudest achievements isn’t a single house but rather the company’s response to the devastating 2022 floods along the Murray River. A lifelong river lover himself, with a houseboat and his own property under construction on the riverbank, Ryan felt a deep responsibility to help the community rebuild. What started as helping friends and locals has since grown into 12 riverfront homes under construction and a new office in the town’s main street to serve that growing demand. “It’s been really, really rewarding,” he says. Repeat business has become a consistent part of Stannard Family Homes’ success. Clients return years later for second builds, sometimes after growing their families or simply wanting to upgrade. Others refer friends, family members, and colleagues. But Ryan is upfront about the challenges, particularly in recent years. Extended build times during COVID—jumping from eight months to 14 or 16—tested both clients and builders. “Any builder who says their customer service has been absolutely spot on through that is lying,” Ryan admits. “It’s just the reality of how much the industry has changed.” Part of adapting to those changes has been recognising that clients today expect more than just a well-built house—they expect a smooth experience. “They want someone to hold their hand,” Ryan says. “It’s not about the home anymore.
