All of their framework and trusses are made in Mackay by a local company, says Kylie, but the company is branching out for diversification. “Previously 75 to 80 percent of the homes we built were from one building material supplier that supplies timber framing, glass, and everything like that. We’ve decided to spread that love a little bit further and support more locals who can deliver the quality product that we’re happy to deliver.” Kylie cites as an example their sourcing of stone. “I got a call from a Sydney company that wanted to supply us with stone for our houses. When you order from a distance you run the risk of the stone breaking on delivery,” she says Horizon Projects Mackay instead supports a local stone supplier. This local support has had a trickle down effect, with more stone suppliers establishing in response to stone’s growing popularity in home designs. “Unless a cold caller has our postal code, nine times out of ten we prefer to support local.” The closeness Horizon Projects Mackay feels with their community comes down to family – both by blood and with their 13 staff, some of whom have been with the company before it was even created. “We have each other’s backs and are there for each other in the tough times as well as the good,” says Kylie. “We’ve done weddings, births, FEBRUARY 2025
