customers come from their positive relationships with local government procurement and delivery people. “Procurement asks what it’s like to work with us, and the delivery people give feedback, and we get opportunities based on that positive feedback,” says Brodie. Over the years, Freedom Constructions’ small team has gone through periods of growth and contraction, depending on the projects coming up and what’s involved in them. Currently, they rely largely on their trusted network of subcontractors and tradespeople. “We manage a lot of subbies,” says Brodie. “We’re the glue that holds everything together and makes sure quality and deadlines are reached.” Sometimes, Brodie has to change things up to stay competitive price-wise with the tendering process, but they try to garner long-term relationships with their suppliers. “If your preferred supplier is more expensive, you may have to go with another one to win the job, but we do have longstanding relationships with suppliers like Cairns Hardware, PMC, and Lysaght Steel,” he says. It’s the same with their subcontractors, he says. “They look after us, and we look after them. That’s the kind of relationship we like to build with them.” The attention to detail and quality of construction delivered by Freedom Constructions’ team has resulted in the company being recognized with multiple awards. Recently, for example, their ‘Kewarra Beach Abode’ architectural renovation project received multiple awards from both the HIA and Master Builders. MARCH 2025
