Most New Classic Homes projects are around 400 sq metres and valued at $900,000, but they are looking at starting a project early in 2025 that is 650 sq metres and valued at $2m million. Jerome cites a recent project on a unique block of land to showcase their level of service and adaptability. “We had a client with an acreage block of land on a slope surrounded by bushland and elevated looking over farms and fields. Their issue was because it was so steep and in a rural area, they were having trouble finding a builder willing to take on the project,” he says. “Those clients had only contacted larger builders who offer only a select number of designs. And you can’t put a standard house on a non-standard block.” New Classic Homes looked at what they were trying to achieve – a home they can retire in that would capture the views. They had a specific look in mind – industrial shed style boxy, black home. They looked at what they could do to minimize costs and minimize heights because the house would be on posts due to the steep slope. The first thing Jerome did was a survey. They then looked at the fall across the block and began brainstorming the design. They decided to build a wide and not very deep house so they could build along the contour line, minimizing how far out it extends. That had a whole range of benefits for the client. “Wide is great because every room now has a view out to the back,” says Jerome. The back of the house is only three metres off the ground, which reduced engineering design, scaffolding THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE AUSTRALIA
