As Neilsen Group approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, the Queensland-based company stands as a rare example of longevity in an industry defined by constant change. From its origins in the mid-1970s to its present-day operations across southeast Queensland, Neilsen has built a legacy grounded in integrity, reliability, and genuine relationships—values that continue to define its culture and success. For General Manager Sean Moroney, who joined the company in 2021, this milestone represents both reflection and renewal. “It’s a privilege to lead an independent business with such a strong reputation,” he says. “The foundations that were built here decades ago still guide how we operate today.” Sean’s own path into the industry began in a different lane. He originally studied mechanical engineering, but a desire for more hands-on work led him into materials instead of design. “I realised pretty early that I didn’t want to spend my life doing other people’s calculations,” he says with a smile. That realisation led to him joining at Pioneer Concrete, now part of Heidelberg Materials, marking the start of a career that would span more than 30 years in concrete and quarrying. He went on to spend 16 years with Boral Construction Materials before taking the helm at Neilsen—a move he describes as the chance to run “the kind of business I always wanted to be part of: locally owned, deeply connected to its people, and proudly independent.” That independence has long shaped how Neilsen operates.
